In light of the recent storm event, the city wants to help ensure your safety and welfare during this recovery phase.
If you have need of tree cutting, roofing services or other structural issues due to storm related damage, the city strongly suggests you hire someone licensed, bonded and insured.
We are here to assist you should you have any questions or concerns. If necessary, an onsite visit could also be arranged.

In an effort to protect our citizens, customers and our personnel from possible exposure to the coronavirus, the Building Department is asking that whenever possible, you utilize our Building Portal at https://oglethorpe.portal.iworq.net/portalhome/oglethorpe or go to our Building Forms page at https://fortogov.com/building-2/ and print and fill out your form. Forms can then be dropped in the Water Drop Box outside of City Hall.

The Fort Oglethorpe Building Inspection Department is responsible for ensuring the public safety through the enforcement of federal, state and local codes governing construction. Our staff reviews plans, issues building permits, and performs inspections to ensure Code compliance related to aspects of life – safety, structural integrity, handicap accessibility, and electrical, plumbing, fuel gas, heating and air conditioning systems and energy codes.
Fort Oglethorpe Building Inspections enforces the International Building Codes as prescribed by the International Code Council, mandated by and amended by the state of Georgia. The primary mission of the Building Inspection Department is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the people by ensuring a safe building environment.
We recognize that safe buildings are an integral part of maintaining a safe & economically stable community. Our business philosophy is based upon the diligent enforcement of building codes in an atmosphere of cooperation and open communication. This website is intended to promote that and make our services easier to access. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
The State of Georgia allows residential property owners to construct a building or structure for their own use (not offered for sale or lease). If you sell or transfer the building or structure, you will not be allowed to build another for a period of two (2) years, unless you obtain a license or hire a licensed contractor.
